Celmanax® Research

Effect of Celmanax® on nutrient digestibility and production performance in broilers fed diets with normal and low energy and different protein sources.

Introduction: Celmanax is a yeast-derived supplement capable of improving growth performance in broilers. Alternate protein sources are continuously being investigated to supplement diets deficient in energy. The effect of Celmanax under these conditions is tested here.
Conclusions: The inclusion of Celmanax in low energy diets for broiler chickens formulated with different protein sources improved daily weight gain and feed efficiency by 25 and 27%, respectively. The increased performance in broiler chickens fed low energy density diets with Celmanax, as compared to the birds fed a low energy diet with no Celmanax, may be explained by the higher nutrient digestibility.

Effect of supplementation of Celmanax® and a DFM product on growth performance, ileal digestibility, and intestinal development in broiler diets in young chicks.

Introduction: Both prebiotics as well as probiotics are used to improve the production performance in broilers. In this study, the effect of a yeast-based prebiotic (Celmanax) and a commercial probiotic, either individually or in combination, is studied.
Conclusions: Chickens supplemented with Celmanax had increased weight gain and feed efficiency as compared to the control group. Ileal digestibility of dry matter, ash, nitrogen, and energy was increased in chickens supplemented with Celmanax. Additionally, Celmanax increased villus height and surface area. The addition of a DFM to the diet improved weight gain and carcass yield, but not digestibility or intestinal villi development.

Effect of Celmanax® supplementatation on performance and in protecting broilers against a moderate coccidiosis challenge.

Introduction: Celmanax is an enzymatically hydrolyzed yeast and yeast culture manufactured as a combined supplement. Celmanax contains complex sugars like galactosamine, mannose, and mannan oligosaccharide (MOS). Some of these sugars play an important role in preventing infections by some pathogenic bacteria and parasites. Ability of Celmanax to agglutinate E. coli and Salmonella spp has been shown before. In this study, effect of Celmanax on Eimeria challenged broiler chicks was assessed.
Conclusions: Overall, Celmanax appeared to have performance improving properties when fed to non-challenged broilers, and showed significant efficacy against E. tenella but not against E. maxima and E. acervulina challenge. This work was presented at the ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting, 2008 and published in the Journal of Animal Science volume 86, E-Supplement 2.

Effect of Celmanax® supplementation in broiler diets on production performance of broilers.

Introduction: Celmanax is an enzymatically hydrolyzed yeast and yeast culture manufactured as a combined supplement. It contains complex sugars such as beta glucans, galactosamine, mannose, and mannan oligosaccharide (MOS). Yeast culture and MOS containing products play an important role in modulating gut health, gut morphology, and immune function in the animal resulting in improved production performance.
Conclusions: Celmanax provided a significant benefit in this research trial by significantly improving weight gain and the production index.

Effect of supplementation of Celmanax®, antibiotics, and two lysine levels in broiler diets.

Introduction: Broiler health and growth performance is improved with the use of antibiotics, but as more and more countries are moving away from antibiotics, the need to look for alternatives is urgent. Here, supplementation of a yeast-based prebiotic (Celmanax) is compared to that of antibiotics.
Conclusions: Celmanax provided a significant benefit in this research trial by improving feed intake, weight gain, feed efficiency, carcass weights, and carcass yields. Broiler diets with Celmanax provided higher nutrient utilization and higher retention of nutrients.

Effect of Celmanax® liquid on performance, immune function, and health of broilers challenged with E. coli O78

Introduction: Celmanax Liquid is an enzymatically hydrolyzed yeast and yeast culture manufactured as a combined supplement. Celmanax Liquid contains complex sugars such as beta glucans, galactosamine, mannose, and mannan oligosaccharide (MOS). Yeast culture and MOS containing products play an important role in improving overall intestinal well being and in modulating immune function in the animal. The ability of Celmanax to agglutinate E. coli and Salmonella spp has been shown before. In this study, the effect of Celmanax on E. coli challenged broiler chicks was assessed.
Conclusions: Supplementation of Celmanax Liquid significantly improved performance resulting in 253 g heavier birds at the end of the trial compared to control birds. Additionally, by modulating the cellular immunity, Celmanax Liquid reduced morbidity and mortality in birds infected with E. coli compared to infected birds.

Effect of Celmanax® supplementation in aflatoxin-contaminated starter diets on broiler performance

Introduction:
Celmanax® is an enzymatically hydrolyzed yeast and yeast culture manufactured as a combined supplement. Celmanax contains many yeast derived metabolites such as beta glucans, mannans and galactosamine. These complex sugars play an important role in modulating gut health and improving broiler production. Yeast derived mycotoxin binders have shown some success in both in vitro and in vivo systems. In previous studies Celmanax has shown mycotoxin binding abilities and an elimination of the cytotoxic effects of mycotoxins in vitro as well as some immune modulating functions. Consequently, a study was undertaken to evaluate if Celmanax could mitigate an aflatoxin induced challenge in broilers.
Conclusions: Overall, the supplementation of Celmanax to aflatoxin-contaminated broiler starter diets numerically improved weight gain and decreased feed conversion compared to the control. Thus, Celmanax supplemented in the diet is able to improve the performance of broilers when faced with an aflatoxin challenge.

Effect of Celmanax® supplementation in aflatoxin-contaminated starter diets on broiler performance

Introduction:
In a typical broiler operation, one of two methods is used to control coccidiosis: 1) vaccinate all chicks at hatching, or 2) supplement the diet with a coccidiostat. Previous studies have shown supplementation of Celmanax® to be successful in improving the performance of broilers not treated for coccidiosis,. It will be beneficial if a feed additive could improve the overall performance of broilers under the current coccidiosis control regimens. With this aim in mind, the current study was undertaken.
Conclusions: The supplementation of Celmanax SCP in broiler diets effectively enhanced bird performance by significantly improving weight gain, lowering feed conversion ratio and improving bird uniformity at slaughter under the current field practices for control of coccidiosis.
